Due to very high concentration of toxic pollutants, tannery waste cannot be discharged without treatment. Having high COD levels (up to 4000 mg/L), TDS (2000 - 4000 mg/L) and toxic chemicals, it is difficult to treat by conventional biological methods.

SSP has developed a process of treating tannery waste, where the waste reaches a solid concentration of up to 40-45% and is passed through hydro cyclone and thickener. From which the slurry is passed through a centrifuge for separation of salts.

This process results in solid waste sent to treatment, storage and disposal facilities. While the condensate water can be recycled in the tannery itself.
